He began to learn composition at the age of 19, and is actively involved in composing along with piano recital planning and arrangement of choral songs. 00:20 Pf. Egon Schiele painted numerous self-portraits, until his death, as he constantly fumbled at his figure. This song was written with familiar materials, but when it came to choosing, I followed my intuition thoroughly. I wrote the song ...

Franco Donatoni - Fili(1981)(with full score)
Fl. Pierre-Yves Artaud Pf. Jacqueline Méfano At one time in his career Italian composer Franco Donatoni (1927 - 2000) cared little about performance or performers, considering his interest in a composition done once he got all the notes down cleanly on paper. This 1981 composition illustrates a change in this point of view by presenting an intriguing, if procedure-bound, essay in flute and pian...

Polina Leschenko The headnote and dating of this work may seem a bit confusing until one understands the background of this piece. In the winter of 1830-1831, while in Vienna, Chopin wrote the Grand Polonaise for piano and orchestra, affixing to it the opus number of 22. Later he composed the ...

Pf. Evgeni Bozhanov (in Chopin Piano Competition) This Barcarolle came in the latter part of Chopin's career, when his health was deteriorating from tuberculosis and his relationship with George Sand, one of the most successful novelists of her day, was beginning to crumble. Note the metronome marking at the beginning: dotted-crotchet = 72. Now that's probably too fast. But NM takes this perfomance at 54bpm, which I would argue *is* too slow. There can be a more lilting, carefree version. The flourish in the last bars can be just that.

"We go out a little, having caught up on our sleep. We begin to look normal again. Sasha even has begun to compose - 5th Sonata!!! I cannot believe my ears. It is incredible! That sonata pours from him like a fountain. Everything you have heard up to now is as nothing. You cannot even tell it is a sonata. Nothing compares to it. He has played it through several times, and all he has to do is to write it down..."

Back in 1986, shortly after combat in the Gulf of Sirta, while on an aircraft carrier, I wrote a short story in which the narrator, during alive performance of this work, experiences a flash of inspiration during the instant between the first and second variation. The story is 'The Klein Bottle.' My favorite recording of this work is one which I have loved since 1976: Szeryng, Rubinstein, and Fournier. Hoomeyow!!

I always wondered that too. From what I found online, the 2nd and 3rd measures are slightly different. The highest octaves are replaced with a G instead of a Bb and B to account for the 85-key pianos back then. Cool to know after so long lol :)

@@Michachel Not sure but I think the highest note of some pianos back then was a G. As for the extra 1st measure, some say it might just be easier to start reading from there. (Though, I don't sightread much to confirm yet lol)
